5 Reasons Carbs Will Help You LOSE FAT!

The thought of you having to cut out carbs to lose fat is making you give up before you even start? Well, think again, because that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, carbs can actually help you on your fat loss journey!

Cutting out carbs often leads to more harm than good. Low energy, poor digestion, hormone imbalances and low mood are only a few of all the things we don’t want to experience in our fitness journey. I know it can be super confusing - but I promise, you can eat carbs AND drop body fat!

Let’s leave blaming carbs for everything and start enjoying life with Garbs in it! Here are 5 reasons eating carbs will actually help you lose fat!

1. Complex carbs regulates your appetite

One of the biggest factors when it comes to weight loss is the ability to regulate your appetite. If you're super hungry all the time, you’re going to find it super difficult sticking to your healthy eating, and likely will end up eating a lot more.

Complex carbohydrates contain fiber. Fiber has an amazing ability to reduce appetite by keeping you fuller for longer. This is because fiber slows down digestion, keeping you feeling satisfied.


2. Carbohydrates help you train harder

This is one of my favorite things about carbs. I can never train fasted and I have a good amount of carbs prior of my lifting days. It’s well known that carbs are the primary fuel source for the body and brain, but something that's really important to remember is that carbs are stored in the form of glycogen in our muscles!

The glycogen in the muscles is what literally gives your muscles the ability to perform an exercise. Without enough muscle glycogen, you will struggle to perform each rep and you will be exercising at a significantly lower intensity.

Eating enough carbs gives your muscles the energy it needs so you can train your hardest, which will obviously help accelerate your fat loss! 

3.  Carbohydrates keep cravings regulated 

Do often struggle with cravings? It may just be because you’re not eating enough carbs. If you’re not eating enough carbs, your blood sugar levels may drop. This blood sugar drop often leads to intense cravings as it's your body’s way of trying to increase blood sugar to an optimal level.

By including complex carbs at every meal, your blood sugar will be thanking you. In turn, your cravings will decrease and it will be easier for you to stay on track! 

4. Carbohydrates assist with metabolic processes

Talking about macros, let's not forget that micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) play a role in fat loss as well!

Complex carbs contain an array of micronutrients such as magnesium, chromium, and B vitamins that helps fat loss in so many ways!

Magnesium is found in carb rich foods like bananas, brown rice and quinoa. Studies show that magnesium helps reduce body fat and waist circumference by helping regulate blood sugar and insulin levels. Chromium, found in whole grain foods and fruits assist with weight loss through this same way.

B vitamins found in brown rice, fruits and vegetables, are needed to metabolize food. A well-functioning metabolism is the key to weight loss — which is why B vitamins are so important!

5. Carbohydrates keep you Satisfied 

We all know someone who has been on a ‘diet’ and is left feeling super irritable, angry, and maybe even on edge. This is why most people fall off those so called "Quick Fix Diets".

The KEY to seeing results is being able to STICK to your healthy eating! It is scientifically shown that carbohydrates increase serotonin — which is your feel-good hormone!

High serotonin levels boosts your mood and makes you feel HAPPY! Eating carbs literally make you feel good and this is what will make your ‘diet’ sustainable in the long term. If you're happy, you’ll stick with it and see better results in the end!
